In the Desert it Stands

In deepest night, the desert floor is lit
By a star hanging low upon the horizon
Above a complex foundation and residents within
It is lit by the moon, with reflections upon the minarets
Over a fortress and garrison of the scion’s son
The cool of the night provides succor
For the day’s killer heat
The night provides cover
The day provides light
The fortress is a haven
From the scavengers that hover
Who ride across the desert
And raid without end
The miseries the riders bring
Cause sorrow without relent
The fortress remains
As it has many generations
A symbol of hope
Against the raider nations
