ancient modernity

They stole the newborn
From the cradle of civilization
Emptied it
(And threw the cradle
To the sea)
Offered no tit
To suck upon
The baby screamed
and holy of holies cried
Without consolation
Somehow
We couldn't keep it
With us inside
We released the kid
Into the world
without consideration
For
How it would
Consume
And it left its mark
By destroying
Everything
Everything
